Bon Accord Heritage aims to rejuvenate the Bon Accord Baths by considering a profitable and community-enhancing adaptation proposal. The client is open to investing in a design that brings long-term economic and social benefits to Aberdeen and beyond, enriching the ‘granite mile’. Bon Accord Heritage conducts open days as stakeholders to raise public awareness of the building. Their main focus is conserving, repairing, and adapting the baths to meet the community’s needs.
The building would rediscover its original purpose—to shelter and aid individuals in overcoming health issues. Historically, the Baths were established to treat rheumatism. Today, Aberdeen faces various social challenges, including mental health issues. This space could serve as a biophilic sanctuary where people can find healing and solace, particularly during cold and isolating winters.
The primary solution to address the building’s significant issues would be to implement a retrofit strategy. Challenges like asbestos, Mold, humidity, vandalized windows, and interior finishes must be addressed to make the building habitable once more.
