Welcome to Bon Accord Baths

Bon Accord Heritage is a registered charity with the aim of working towards re-opening the historic Category B-listed Bon Accord Baths on Justice Mill Lane, which is one of the few remaining pools of its type in the country. In doing so, we hope to be able to restore and maintain the building’s impressive Art Deco features and expansive pool hall, while providing a number of other complementary resources and services through the use of previously under-utilised parts of the building.

We have an agreement in place with Aberdeen City Council, with whom we meet regularly. Bringing the Baths back as a community-led facility is however a long-term project and we hope to gain as much local support as possible! Please keep checking our page for updates.

We’re going to be hosting Experimental Use Of Space in August! If you’re an artist that would like to be involved please read the post and get in touch with them directly! 🎨NEW CALL “Experimental Use of Space at the Baths” Location: Bon Accord Baths, Justice Mill Lane, Aberdeen AB11 6EPDate: Sunday 28th August 2022Times: Setup 8am- 10amShow opening 10am – 4pmClosure, take down and removal of work 4pm – 5.30pm.In collaboration with Save Bon Accord Baths (SBAB), Experimental Use of Space are calling artists working in any media to participate in a six-hour pop-up exhibition. Participation is open to anyone interested. Under 16s should obtain agreement to participate from a parent or guardian. Participants are encouraged to collaborate with installation and will be responsible for removing their artwork at the end of the show. There are no fees, and nothing will be for sale during the exhibition. Organisers: Margaret Preston, Emma Jane Kingaby, Becky Orlinski (SBAB) and Rod Scott.Details: Artists can show work in any media including performance and up to four works per artist can be shown. There is no theme for this exhibition; artists are free to respond to the spaces in any way they wish. Artwork will need to be installed (suspended or freestanding) in a two-hour period and the fabric of the interior cannot be modified in anyway (no nails, screws or tape). Two-dimensional work may be mounted but ideally not framed. There is no power supply in the building or lighting other than natural light which hopefully will be plentiful. The empty pool will be used for dance and possibly other scheduled performances but there will be some space for sculptures and installations. The diving boards and the areas under and around the diving boards cannot be used for safety reasons. There will be no access for visitors to the pool side; so artists should consider that work will be seen at some distance from the gallery or side seating area. Images of the Experimental spaces available for this exhibition have been placed on facebook and Instagram at: www.facebook.com/Experimental-Use-Of-Space-767247036994055www.instagram.com/experimentaluospace/To participate please contact us with the following information before the 14th of August.1. If possible, request the specific space you wish to use e.g. entrance, reception area, balcony above pool, area in or around the pool, gym rooms etc. Space will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Every effort will be made to find suitable space for everyone’s work and installation of the show will be a collaborative effort. You can, if you wish, turn up for the set up, and then decide on positioning your work, there is flexibility. This art event is, in part, for seeing experimental interactions between artworks and spaces and will be documented by filming and capturing images for artists’ portfolios and personal, Experimental Use of Space and SBAB social media pages.Supporting SBAB: If you have work you could donate to the Save Bon Accord Baths to help raise money for their important charity work please bring it with you on the 28th of August. If you have questions or wish to show development of your work on our social media pages please e-mail j.peg files to roderick.scottart@gmail.com If you use social media to post images, please do not use tags like Urbex, and abandoned etc but do tag SaveBonAccordBaths and ExperimentaluoSpace so we can increase our exposure. There are no toilets at the baths. The nearest public toilets are in the Trinity Centre. See MoreSee Less

🚨 Intruder Alert 🚨Looks like some uninvited guests decided to pay the baths a visit on Saturday night and steal/hide some of our equipment. We’d rather not share your faces (yes, you were caught on cctv) but we would like our equipment back. You can get in touch with our team of volunteers if you’d like to do the right thing 💌We know how much everyone wants to see the baths which is why we make every effort to give access to as many people as we can. We’d much rather spend our time giving you a safe tour of the building than tidying up and fixing broken things 💔Unfortunately, despite the extensive volunteer work which has taken place to improve security, the long streak of no unwanted activity has ended. We’re a positive bunch though so let’s start the streak again…now! The police have been informed 🚔 See MoreSee Less
